GINA U L-ESPLORATURI
Gina u l-Espoloraturi is a children’s science television show presented by Esplora, an interactive science centre. My tasks for this project were to animate their already existing logo, develop a credit sequence with music, create a series of lowerthirds for the main cast, develop a photo frame sequence and design transitions. Total work took around a month to complete.
The deliverables for this project included:
Logo animation
Lowerthirds of 7 names
Music and SFX
Photo frame border in landscape and portrait mode
Transitions in 5 colours in landscape and portrait mode
Credits sequence
As someone who grew up watching Art Attack in their younger years, I was incredibly excited to work on this project. The show Gina u l-Esploraturi is centred around having fun with science and most importantly, to always be curious about the world. So the tone had to be right from the get-go and as inspiration, I took cues from hand drawn animation. The red vial in the logo is the catalyst for fleshing out the entire animation! I then added a couple of SFX to further elaborate on the whimsical, fun nature of the show.
As the characters went about their experiments, certain talking points were represented via the use of a photo frame. These along with transitions, made for a seamless experience when cuts were done throughout the entire show. I once again made use of hand drawn animation to create the lowerthirds and the transitions themselves. In the above clip, David is explaining to Gina how we can find rust on the planet Mars.
The credits for the show were essentially a task in hierarchy. I kept things simple by incorporating the font Gotham Narrow in light and bold styles. Furthermore, as the text transitions from one segment to the next, I animated the test tubes around the edges of the yellow frame to keep things from being too static.
